Asian travellers choosing Asia
Friday, 2 September 2011
Seventy-five per cent of Asian international travel starts and ends in Asia, a recent study has revealed.
According to an ITB Berlin commissioned evaluation by IPK International – World Travel Monitor Company, some 39 per cent of Japanese travellers choose to travel outside of Asia, the same goes for 33 per cent of Chinese travellers and 20 per cent of Korean travellers.
Findings from the study show that international travel numbers have fallen over the past five years, a trend which “is attributable firstly to the world economic crisis and secondly to the rapid development of destinations within Asia”, Messe Berlin Competence Centre Travel and Logistics director Martin Buck said.
“As a result Asians are finding that journeys within their own continent are not only more favourably priced but are also attractive.”
Over one-third (a total of 46.5 million) of all Asians who travel abroad come from China, Japan and South Korea.
