Garuda meets low-cost demand
Wednesday, 29 June 2011
Indonesia’s flag carrier has committed itself to the purchase of up to 50 A320s as an initiative to keep up with growing demand in the low cost-market.
Joining the carrier’s Citilink fleet, the contract signed earlier this month confirms the delivery of 25 aircraft, 15 standard A320 and 10 A320neo, between 2014 to 2018 and another 25 aircraft optional for add-on.
“The combination of comfort for passengers, proven reliability for high frequency services and low operating costs made the A320 the clear favourite to enable Garuda Citilink to develop its full potential in the competitive low cost market," Garuda chief executive Emirsyah Satar said.
New aircraft purchased at the Paris Airshow this month will boost the carrier’s fleet up to 153 aircraft by 2015 with A320s, A330-200 and B-737-800NG.
The carrier also announced early last week that it has signed a contract with CAE for two 7000 Series Level D full-flight simulators for increased and ongoing training of its pilots.
Mr Satar added that the new training program would allow Garuda to “to fulfil the need for more pilot in time by providing them with new highest-quality training environment in its base in Jakarta”.
